Today, December 10th, is Human Rights Day. It recognizes and acknowledges the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, the United Nations is encouraging people to stand up for someone's rights! We need to reaffirm our common humanity, and know that we can all make a real difference. Together we can take a stand for more humanity.
The world is witnessing the greatest humanitarian crisis since the Second World War. To address the pressing problems shared by the world, the United Nation's Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon convened the first ever World Humanitarian Summit to establish commitments that would reduce suffering and provide a better world for those in need. The Lucky Iron Fish participated in the World Humanitarian Summit along with a list of companies and organizations wanting to address the core commitments laid out by the summit: (1) to prevent and end conflict; (2) to respect the rules of the war; (3) leave no on behind; (4) catalyse action for gender equality; (5) respond to disaster and climate change; (6) work differently to end need; and (7) invest in humanity. Together, these companies and organizations were able to share the best practices which can help save lives around the world, put affected people at the center of humanitarian action and alleviate suffering.
