Frequently asked questions
Traditional iron supplements are well-suited for raising iron levels quickly. However, they also have low adherence in the long-term largely due to unpleasant gastro-intestinal side effects such as nausea, constipation, and black stool. Thus, this can negatively impact treatment efficacy.
Most adults need 8-18mg of iron per day, depending on their lifestyle and life stage. Iron needs could be higher than that for some people, for example during pregnancy or if you are athletic.
Lucky Iron Daily can help you meet most or all of your daily iron needs without any side effects.
Yes, the Lucky Iron Daily helps you meet Health Canada’s recommended intake for iron for pregnancy, when taken in conjunction with a healthy diet. The iron needs are much higher during this time (average of 27mg instead of 18mg per day). Iron plays a critical role in a healthy pregnancy and childbirth, as well as in a child's cognitive development in the future.
Yes, one scoop of Lucky Iron Daily can be consumed daily by children 5 years old and up, as well as adolescents and adults. For further customizations to your iron needs, please consult your healthcare provider.
*We have not tested use of the Lucky Iron Life products on infants under 12 months of age. According to Canadian Paediatric Society guidelines, most infants do not require additional iron in the first year of their life. However, if your baby’s physician decides that the baby needs more iron then we suggest that you follow their advice about the best way to treat your infant.
*We do not recommend using it if you have a hemoglobin variant such as Hemochromatosis, which is a genetic disorder that makes it difficult for the body to deal with iron.
If you are not certain or have any concerns, please consult your healthcare provider.
